Zurich, 8th February 2017
It was on one of these bitter cold winter days: our Japanese lesson and climbing lessons had just ended and we wanted to treat ourselves and celebrate the fact that half the week was already behind us. As both our classes were in Oerlikon, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try Kai Sushi which is located on the Max-Bill-Platz. We are pretty sure it won't be our last visit either.
From the extremely tempting menu, we decide to order à la carte (there is also a sushi train to chose from):

The whole experience is rounded off with tee, umeshu and a scoop of black sesame ice-cream for dessert.
As you can see, we mostly tried fusion-style bites. In conclusion: even fans of pure Japanese cuisine will have to agree that the original culinary ideas are very well put together. The tuna-foie gras- caviar-combination was a very special blend of smokey and fine delight. Also the combination of the warm, crunchy tempura crust with the creamy tuna tartar of the volcano roll will convince you. The idea of combining beef tartar with the quail egg was not only a pretty sight and the warm beef tataki set a nice contrast to the turf below. For our next visit, a keener glance on the more classical cuisine would be appropriate: the sashimi, with its fine cut and, for Zurich, very fresh taste, definitely makes us want to taste more. Only the tuna tataki was slightly too dry for us - however, this does not undermine overall picture in the least.
We have found our favourite sushi place in Zurich city! Kai sushi convinced by its cuisine but also by its ambiance. The relaxed but still stylish decoration as well as the extremely nice staff, make it a perfect location as an after work hang-out as well as for a casual date - and all this for a good value for money. In short: we will definitely be back!
