Zurich, 16th February 2019
During a lively Bonen-kai evening at Sala of Tokyo, organised by the Swiss Japanese Chamber of Commerce (SJCC), we noticed a very interesting flyer: the restaurant offers healthy brunch on Saturdays! We couldn't pass on this opportunity and decided to try it out on one of the following Saturday afternoon in Zurich. We hadn't reserved, and arriving at 1.30pm, we had to wait for 30 minutes. However, as the restaurant is located a stone's throw away from the main shopping street, that wasn't really an issue and it was definitely worth the wait.
Sushi cannot be found on the Brunch menu, only in the evening. The sashimi selection however makes up for it in bounds. From Toro to Kingfish, you'll find all that a seafood afficionado's heart desires.
After an intensive morning sport session, we take full advantage of the Brunch selection:
The Chawan-Mushi is a treat for your taste buds, the sashimi is fresh (as fresh as it can be in a landlocked country) and the sashimi dressing is on point with the algea salad. The Matcha Latte could have been served a little more chilled, and even though it is unsweetened it still hits the spot.
You'll find no better way to start your Saturday. The service is friendly and you feel at home straight away. We'll definitely be back - but be warned that this treat will set you back quite a bit. The menu we mentioned costs CHF 66.-, with the possibility of unlimited Prosecco for an additional CHF 19.-. But sometimes you just have to treat yourself.
